Hello everybody. I am new to the forum, but have had an ebike for 3 years. I have had a few 'issues', but love this bike. I decided to join because I had a problem with the bike which I solved and wanted to share. I couldnt find anyone with the same problem, but maybe didnt look hard enough.
It started cutting out, but I knew it wasnt the battery, because the battery power lights stayed on. I discovered it was the servo brake.
I initially didnt realise the brake had a power cutoff when applied. The brake cable had frayed and was dragging. It was releasing the brake but not fully, to the extent that the switch was not re-engaging. I replaced the cable and now its perfect.
Hope that helps somebody.

Thanks for that. Glad it's sorted. I must admit to having a fondness for the Cyclamatic. When your battery expires, you can get a 36v one, which slots straight in and makes the bike a lot faster and better at climbing hills.

This problem can happen to any bike with those type of brakes, which is most ebikes under about £1200. We also had one where the brake cable had gone dry, so the lever wasn't fully returning, which also causes the same problem. Ex-motorcyclists are the worst because they got in the habit of leaving a couple of fingers on the front brake, which is sometimes enough to operate the switch.

Hello. I was worried about putting a 36volt battery and burning out the controller or motor. I had a battery fail last year and got a new 24v pack made for me in china. I stripped out the cells and put a new LiFePO4 pack in the casing instead of LI-ON. I did this because I discovered that there are lots of battery packs that look the same but are different sizes. Also the charging sockets and outputs vary.Saved lots of dosh. I have it on test for about 6 months and really pleased. I like the idea of 36v. Thanks.

A couple of guys on this forum fitted 36v batteries behind the seat-post. One had to adjust the plastic bit at the bottom, but the other went straight in. The standard controller can take it without modification.

Another solution, which can be done on any bike with the battery behind the seat-post is to empty the case and use it as a toolbox/storage instead, and fit a rack battery. This also gives the chance to use a larger more powerful controller.

Here's what I did. You can see 4 screw-heads at the bottom of the original battery box, which hold the new controller in place. The box is empty above that and there's enough space for a 5aH pack of 44v lipos, which gives even more speed and power:

Help, I also have a Cyclamatic that has cut out how do I re-engage the switch?

How do I re-engage the switch?
My problem happened when I was following a group of very slow cyclists up a hill and I had to keep braking as I couldn't pass them. My electric power suddenly ceased and I don't know how to restart it!!!!

You can''t. You can only make sure that the lever goes fully back. Very unusual but you should check it: There's a little knurled retaining sleeve where the wire comes out of the lever. Make sure it's screwed up tight. Do you know about the red button?

You should not switch threads. You should stick to your own one where people have replied and asked you questions that you didn't answer.
