Hi folks, my name is Danny and I am a fully qualified NOOB ;-)

I am e-assist upgrading my recumbent trike with a Bafang BBS01 unit.
The standard wiring anticipates a traditional DF bike layout and the length of the standard wiring for the brake lever cables is woefully short for a recumbent with USS. While I can see lots of "speed sensor" extender cables out there for sale, I can't see any Brake Sensor cable extenders. Do they not do such a thing? It seems such a shame to spoil a waterproof wiring system by cut-extend-shut if an extension cable with the correct waterproof/resistant M-F connectors was available.

My second question relates to Lighting. I have a number of Buck Converters that are allegedly rated at 3 - 40V input and providing a range of Voltages as output (up to a max of 2A current). I am considering using this as an intermediary between my 36V/20AH Battery (42V when fully charged?) and LED lighting. Is this a bad move, should I be buying standalone CREE lights with their own battery packs instead? My riding will not include a significant amount of night time riding, it is more to comply with the law in the case a ride extends into the hours of darkness.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Danny, I cannot help you on extender question I'm afraid.

But plenty ofc members, including myself, run their led lights of the main pack.

Either via dc dc convertors or just direct .

No issue at all

Cheers

Many of those buck converters come with 40v caps on the input side. These will probably blow as soon as you connect them (mine did). Look out for a buck converter that can handle 50v at the input side, or has 50v caps.

Luckily, these Buck converters appear to have a 50V capacitors (so it says in big numbers on the input side) and similarly a 35V capacitor on the output side. I could be lucky I guess/hope. Thanks for your response, it is much appreciated.

Thanks Kirstin, good to know I am not barking mad to think it is an ideal opportunity to utilise the single power source.
