Very useful, these on line resources look better than the mapping system I've got on my PC.

I've just tried uploading one of the routes we used over Exmoor last week. It worked on bikehike.co.uk. If anyone else wants to try it (and see the elevation profiles), here are the route files.

I use Garmin Mapsource on my PC it is navteq mapping and allows me to quickly draw routes to get an idea of mileage, but it is not a dedicated cycle resource as I use it mainly for motorhome trips......

Getting a bit feed up with south London traffic, so some dedicated routes may be better. Saying that I was nearly mashed on a back road yesterday by a car and I tend to feel safer on wide main routes where I can use the bus lane.........Will give these a try, they look very useful:)

I use mgmaps on my Nokia phone. I used the map downloader to get the whole of opencyclemap.org and stuck it on an SD card. Now I have full blown cycle friendly maps wherever I go... and it didn't cost a penny. The only thing it's missing is a way to download pre-made route overlays.

I intend to use my Holux GPSlim 236 GPS receiver with Maemo-Mapper on my Nokia N810 internet tablet, not to view maps in real time, but just to record GPS tracking data in GPX format, so I can import on Google Maps or any other utility (as per this thread's links) from my laptop.

I use the Nokia Sportstracker application for recording my route. Once you've finished riding, you can upload the gps data to the SportsTracker website... and then download it as a .kml file which can be pulled into Google Earth - You can then do a helicopter fly-through tour of the route you've just done - It's really great watching where you've just been from 350feet up in the air... especially on the longer routes.

Not having a posh phone or GPS, I plan or log routes using Bikehike or Gmaps Pedometer and print them on pieces of paper which I take with me! (Bikehike has the advantage of being able to superimpose routes on Ordnance Survey maps of all scales.)

Daniel, you can delete any unwanted post entries within a thread at any time.

Just click the Edit button at the foot of your post, then the Delete button that appears below the edit box, then Delete Message at bottom left, followed by the Delete This Message button at the bottom right.

This deletes the whole post and returns you to the head of the thread where the operation was carried out.

Whole threads you initiate cannot be deleted of course, for that would also give the capability of deleting other's responses.
