Just back today from a week away in Germany where we picked up a new motorhome. Have down sized to a panel van conversion? (Adria Twin SP) so have lost the secure garage we had with the bigger camper.... need to get a tow bar fitted next week then was looking at the E bike specific "Thule EuroPower Electric 2 Bike Towball Carrier 916"

Is there anything else on the market that I should be look at?

Stilts? Electric Stilts? Man, this coffee's good...

Alloy frames are severley affected by road salts (in winter). Perhaps a folding bike you could keep inside, or definately some covers to keep your bikes clear of those salts...

The Thule model you are considering is a good choice Eddie, but expensive. Others to consider, but with a lower weight carrying capacity are this one Evans Cycles | Menabo Winny 2 Tow Ball Rack | Online Bike Shop , I have the 3 bike version of this one, Thule Ride On Tow Ball Bike Carrier but never carry more than 2 bikes and always remove the batteries. It was less than £100 when I bought it 4 years ago.

a) still paying for the kids education/weddings
b) the missus does not like the idea

Oh and more than a couple of hours driving gives me back ache. Ho hum.

well went for the Thule omnibuke 2 door as this is the only van door model with a decent payload (50 kg)

we went for this because: Cost and weight of tow bar + e bike rack...and more importantly we would not be able to open rear doors with bikes loaded which is essential for various reasons......

what I never realised was extra length of e bikes obstruct lights a bit but having socket fitted Tuesday and will get a lighting board to fit on the back....

will try and load some picks...That being said I am finding negotiating this new forum difficult.

You've put the heavy end of the bike over the unsupported side of the rack, wouldn't it be better round the other way.

Hi Bob, It won't go the other way as gears foul rack frame? you have to put bikes in opposite directions anyway. But your right I dont like it either, and why I am changing bikes (one on ebay tonight) I am getting a wisper kit on one. and maybe a Haibike or carbon Kudos as the other....Or maybe 2 wisper kits not sure yet

any other suggestions for sub 20 kg bikes appreciated

Thanks lemmy, you are correct but lighter bikes without batteries will be lighter still......I would not drive with batteries on, was just trying the bike on to see how it went and for the picture. It was a two person job

Did you see the latest wisper pic with New Zealand chap holding bike up at full stretch with one hand? that is what I want, a light nimble e bike....

Van looks absolutely fabulous. Just wanted to say this thread has been very helpful I've decided on the rack for us because of this thread cheers !

We're using the Thule 916. Yes, expensive but seems very robust, caters for the extra long wheelbase of e-bikes and comes complete with a built-in light board. Also available is a loading ramp which seems to allow you to wheel your bikes aboard. Against it, apart from the price (£299 on ebay) is the sheer bulk of the thing even when 'folded' up. Oh, and you need a towball to mount it on ... you could probably buy a bike trailer for less?
Looking to be back on the road when the new battery arrives.

Thanks Morag and Tom. I fully intended to get the 916 but storage was an area of concern and the fit and forget aspect of a permanent door mounted rack appealed in the end. Plus we use the tunnel a lot and you have to be able to access gas locker which is behind rear door, plus get to storage etc.....

I wish you'd stop changing bikes all the time its messing my spreadsheet up! ... your confused? ... what about the poor people who come onto this forum for some clarity. I suspect they'll all running off screaming.
