Not ebikes, I know, but has anyone been to Paris lately and seen the Velib ranks and the take-up? These things are available in ranks on many street corners and loads of people are using them. They're push bikes with Shimano hub-gears and dynamo lighting and seem to be "cool". Better than the postman bikes Ken's proposing for London and you can't help but be impressed by the set-up of the ranks. All to the good for cycling. What if someone did it with ranks for ebikes, just as Westminster allow a few charging points for Noddy cars?

I like the idea, but think many of today's e-bikes are still too frail for such public access, things like cables not well protected and flimsy switches. Probably only the Panasonic motor concept would work, fixed in standard mode with only an on/off switch, but it would still be dependent on a returning rider plugging it in.

That could be tied into their cancellation software though,to ensure it was done.
