Tomorrow I will pick up my Agattu, the first ever in Denmark.

The hand-over will be attended by a journalist writing an article to the Co-Op member magazine Samvirke on the upcoming trend electric bicycles.

I will be interviewed about the reasons for buying an electric bicycle, and of course why I chose the Agattu. Of course flecc is entirely to blame for the latter.:D

In our brief telephone conversation the journalist emphasized that he was looking for a "normal" person rather than the usual elderly or arthritic.
I just confessed that I'm lazy, love gadgets and want to get in shape.

I have actually been the driving force of the Agattu introduction in Denmark, because 50Cycles sent my request to buy one from them to Derby cycles, because they are only allowed to sell in UK. I was then contacted by Derby's importer in Denmark.

Against this publicity I got some extra discount, though not huge.

Well done Erik, you're one of Denmark's e-bike pioneers.

When a namesake of yours, Eric Sundin in the USA first introduced the Giant Lafree bikes to the USA and formed an association with them via his company ElectricBikes North West, he became internationally famed in the e-bike world, even providing Giant with the name for that bike in the States, the Giant Lite.

European fame may await you now.

Well Denmark is only 5 million people, so it will be on a quite smaller scale.

I can only hope to make more Danes see that electrical assisted bikes are not just for the elderly or disabled, but a useful tool to get more people to use the bicycle.

However, judging from the reactions I've had until now, it's going to be an uphill ride:
  • You're just lazy, pull yourself together and start training on a normal bike.
  • If you can't do it on a normal bike, buy a moped.
  • If you can't do it on a normal bike, take your car.
  • What was that price again?
  • Maybe I'll buy one when I get old and weak.
  • You could buy a normal bike and a training pass for the fittness centre.
  • You could buy (whatever) for that money.

........:D ..........

All very familiar here too Erik!

I think the "hard to get" approach might be more successful, showing reluctance to give any information. That usually intrigues people who think they are being denied something special that others are enjoying.

Hi Erik,

It would be interesting to know how much the Aggatu will sell for in Denmark.

Cheers,

Django
