Just wondering if a combination of melted snow, dirty road rain water and dissolved grit, how long do you think it will take for these substances (if i may call it so),to penetrate through to the bike frame work including all the components even down to a tiny screw.
I know that the best and most obvious procedure is to wash the bike down staight away but what do you do after a long hard ride and well and truly knowing that tomorrow is definitely out of the question and maybe the following day after that.
Basically,in other words how long can you get away with from not washing down the bike before any damage takes place?

I would be more worried about the fresh potholes that will be exposed after the thaw.

Preventive maintenance.. wash it and rub it down with oils after every use.
Standard maintenance .. squirt some lube on it if and when it looks dry
Non maintenance ... wait till something doesn't work then seek professional advice

Melted snow is just water, and can be treated much in the same way as a ride in the rain.

Melted snow from places that have been gritted is evil.... and should be treated with a good hose down immediately upon arrival at a place of safety

The dirty snow is no problem, but if you've been riding on the road, your bike will be covered in salt, which will make a right mess of your bike if you don't get it off soon.

I'm more worried about the potholes you cannot see before the thaw.
