I wonder if anyone else has the same problem as me. When I'm scrolling through a thread it can take ages if there are photos embedded within the page -could we maybe be encouraged to post a link to photos instead so that anyone reading a thread can decide whether or not to look at the photos and anyone who doesn't can wheech through the posts? Just a thought:)

Have you got a low speed broadband connection Tyler? I don't get any problem with 3.3 mB but used to when it was only 1 mB.

Just switch them off in your personal settings

Settings- then under my settings click general settings - thread display options - untick show images.
Then save
The image then displays as a link which you can click to view.

I think I must have Flecc as I have problems with Youtube videos too.

Excellent 10mph, thanks, I'll do that. You learn something new every day on here, and not just about electric bikes!:)

Did you mean to write 'msconfig.exe' ?? (if you run smconfig (assuming it exists on your machine), you could be in for a nasty surprise http://www.threatexpert.com/files/smconfig.exe.html)

And that is assuming it's a Windows based machine and not a Mac or even Linux (or possibly even Google Chrome)!

Most likely cause is a slow broadband connection, check that out first if it supposed to be fast and in the meantime as already suggested switch of the automatic download of images in your browser until your connection speed is sorted. Other than that you will probably need tech support or provide more details of your machine and setup if you need help from an internet forum.

Trouble is that everyone would have to follow this advice, just so that your images load faster and it kinda defeats the object of the rich media internet that we all (supposedly) enjoy nowadays :D

Whatever you do don't run any software to 'cure' it. It can do more harm than good and often does. Find out what the problem is first. In any problem shooting, change one thing at a time only.

The first thing to do it to ascertain the actual speed of data transmission you are getting. You can test the speed of your broadband connection here.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

If it is close to what your ISP bills for then you have eliminated them as the problem.

Are you using wifi? Is so, plug your machine directly into the incoming network cable instead. If your speed improves greatly, your wifi is the source of the problem.

Until you have eliminated these two things as the source of your poor net performance, do not mess with any settings or let any so called 'tuning' software do so..

You really should not have to turn off images - media rich content is the main reason for haing broadband.

Thanks very much Lemmy, that's done the trick, feel a bit silly not thinking about it before  Thanks to everyone else too for all the advice, as usual much appreciated

Check what transmission standard your wireless is using, 802.11a supports 54Mbps but the signal is reduced severely by walls etc. 802.11g is more robust but still runs up to 54Mbps. 802.11b only supports 11Mbps. You can easily check your connection speed on the PC by resting the mouse pointer on the network icon in the lower right of the status bar.

Test connection speed by using Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test do this when wired to the router, if speed is as expected then it is a wireless problem, try the same test on wireless, then try rebooting your router and your PC, if wireless is still slow try your machine on another wireless connection (next doors or a friends), if connection OK there, suspect router, otherwise suspect PC (see below), borrow a router from somewhere and try that, if at this stage you can determine that it is your router then you might want to call the broadband provider to check router and PC settings, before buying a new router, however some will charge as much as a new router just on phone call charges.

If it's your PC then there could be any number of reasons why it is slow, accidental damage to Ariel, wireless card, onboard chip, operating system etc etc, best to call an expert and ask for a fixed fee to fix it, or bin laptop and buy another.

As previous post, don't bother with buying software to clean your PC or speed things up, they are usually a waste of money.
