Just received my custom 48v 15Ah Ping.
The process was a pleasure from start to finish, I must add. Ping is a very professional vendor.
The battery is fantastically constructed and looks superb.

Just one question regarding the lights on the BMS.
Do they light, only when charging and balancing individual cells that need balancing?

The pack looks to be already fully charged, reading 54v, but when I plug the charger in, no lights are lit on the BMS.

Is this a cause for concern, or normal?

Thats normal. Did the battery arrive with the BMS disconnected? if so, you need to connect the multipin connector. I would expect the battery cells to be perfectly balanced within a couple charges.
I think mine reaches nearly 59volts before the leds start to illuminate.

Yep, connected all the wiring by the book.
So I assume I need to just plug in the charger and let it do its business for a good while.
Then all the lights should start to illuminate, as each cell reaches optimal charge?

I bought mine secondhand but very little use. It took a while to get all 16 leds on, i left it off overnight, went back the next day and tried again and the BMS had balanced the cells so only a 'topup' was required to make all the leds go on.. The charger will switch on and off if HVC is reached yet some cells aren't fully charged. When the charger switches off the BMS is balancing all cells, as it does at all times when connected.
What hub is it going to power?
If it's a BPM you'll have a nice set up.

MAC 500w 10T, 30A controller and Cycle Analyst to turn things down a bit, if it's a bit too feisty running 30A.

As you are probably aware the ping batteries are ok for maximum of 2.5C. I had a ping battery thats still giving good performance approaching nearly 4 years (wife's bike). I think the key thing is to keep the discharge levels well within 1.5C which is how we have treated that battery, so far so good and i expect to get a couple more years use out of it.
With that in mind, I've adjusted my controller to peak at 25A. just outside 1.5C to get longevity out of the 48V 15Ah Ping battery i have now. TBH, i'm finding 25A peak more than enough with a code10BPM and i expect you will find the same with the 10T Mac.

I knew Cellman's 45A controller would kill a 15Ah Ping very quickly, which is why I compromised with his 30A unit.

I will probably dial the C.A. to run at 25A, but it's always nice to have a little bit of headroom.

Another reason, is that I was informed that running a 9 FET at a lower rating, would mean it would run cooler than a 6 FET at its max.
