Ping battery website or eBay?

Has anyone bought a Ping battery directly from his website?
They are also available from him via eBay but are a little more expensive. Probably to offset eBay fees.
Both ways of buying these batteries are payable with PayPal.
I just wondered if going through eBay offered any extra buyer safety? Or can any disputes go through the PayPal system whether the goods were bought on eBay or not.
I wouldn't expect anything to go wrong as i've only heard good words about Ping's service.
Unfortunately these batteries are quite expensive and buying from China will always have some degree of worry.

I've not bought from him but going by the feedback on here and on ES he's well though off and reliable...Ebay will offer no additional buyer protection so you may as well save a bit and buy off his site...

Hi,
I bought directly from the ping main site late last year with the usually concerns and it took a bit longer than the two weeks to ship but arrived well packaged and so far all is well.

I bought a 36v 20ah and also fitted a cycle analyst at the same time so I know it is currently doing my 10.5 mile each way commute in approx 8ah (21miles) and takes 45mins each way. i have covered about 340 miles so far on this battery without any issues. (It is fitted to an old powabyke euro)

Thanks for the replies NRG and mutmost.
Do you think LiFePO4 batteries will always remain fairly expensive, or like most technology come down in price?

Most likley to remain high with price rises in the future due to the cost of raw materials and the weakening exchange rate.

I ordered my Ping 29.7v, 20Ah pack directly from Ping via his website. It was cheaper than ebay and besides which, I don't have an ebay account anyway. No problems with the service. Ping gave excellent customer service.

Did anyone buy the 6Amp charger at the same time?

Ping battery worth it or not?

I`ve been looking at the lifepo4 batteries for a while. My problem is that I go out and sometimes feel really good and want to go further and at times carry an extra 36V 10amp battery in case.
I`m considering a 36V 20amp unit and almost certainly one of his chargers. I have more than one e bike but am not worried about compatability because I have already made up patch leads to be able to interchange batteries between bikes. when you work out the price of the 20Amp battery + charger delivered it works out around £100 more than a 36V 10amp battery so economically it seems like a good bet.
Looking at the images on Pings website I see the power cables coming from the casing, do those cables unclip in any way from the pack? or are they soldered in and live all the time? Do you get any connections for the supplied charger or in what way do they connect?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade?

thanks

Dave

I notice the replies are a bit short so I can only think that not a lot of people have any experience with Lifepo4.

On further web searching I found other lifepo4 batteries that are a lot cheaper (£254 as opposed to just over £400) which is obviously tempting but I think that sense will prevail and if I go for anything it will probably be a genuine Ping version. Just can`t see from the photos if they come with any connectors? and what is the third wire coming out of the battery?

Come on Flecc/NRG you must know a bit about them?

mine had three wires coming from the pack a "+" a "-" and the third was a charger lead with the conncetor on to fit the supplied charger.

The + and - were just taped and needed terminals and a fuse adding.

This may be a stupid question but can you charge these while the battery is still connected to the bike if it has its own charging lead?
Well that I can answer. Yes I do that with my other bikes but I do make sure the power is turned off by key or switch on the battery.

Thanks, I thought the odd lead was a charge lead. So! you don`t get a fuse in line then? What did you use, a car in line fuse? and what value? Of course you would also need an in line switch as well.

Thanks

fuse type used

I use a glass slow blow 20amp fuse from Maplins (say as what was already on the powabyke) and it has never blown either with the lead acid or ping. Excepect when I have done something silly!

Is the in line fuse neccessary?
I thought the BMS had all sorts of battery protection

The BMS protects the battery. On my 20Ah Ping pack, the BMS has a 40A current limit set.

The Fuse would be to protect your wiring (which in my case is only good for 30A)
