In long-standing need of a torq washer, torque arm, torque anything, I have been to many an LBS and asked mechanically inclined friends but finally, after a rather dispiriting session in a local workshop, in desperation I phoned up Frank Curran of Powabyke (and this forum) who had one and gave it to me and it works! Not only did he refuse payment, he offered to let me try a prototype new version of the X-Bike. Excellent! They have a potential winner there.

Thanks again, Frank - your kindness is much appreciated! :)

I'd be interested to know more about this X-bike from either yourself or Frank..

Although in my case Wisper won the business for my recent upgrade, another work colleague asked me about e-bikes today, and there are many who will spend about £600-£900 on one but can't quite afford a Wisper...

Hi Alex

I think the £800ish price point is an important one, which is why I think the X-Bike has great potential for drawing more people into the market.

The version I rode was impressive. It rode quite well without power, for example. But I think I'd better leave it to Frank to give details in case I'd be breaking confidence... Sorry if that sounds a bit pretentious!!!

Just checked the Powabyke x bike online. I have to say it looks good. I like the smaller lighter (2.5kg) Lithium battery. I only commute 10 miles so carrying a 5kg 36v 10Ah battery is over kill.

Its looks well built and I notice has a nice torque arm as standard. 700c wheels too :)

I am assuming its one of these

Powabyke X-Byke X-6 6 Speed Lithium Ion Electric Bike - Free Delivery

Its kinda what I was thinking about building as a second ebike i.e less gears and smaller battery.

So what's the motor in it, is it quiet and whats the freewheel like ? Maybe I should go try one lol

Regards

Jerry

Hi Jerry

The one I tried had a different motor and front forks - these features aren't available yet... This new version had a good freewheel. It's a while since I tried the current one.

Hi bode

This one was reasonably quiet. I remember at Presteigne earlier in the year I tried two. One was as you describe, very noisy. It also had a long delay before the power cut in (Mark I?) The other was quieter with a shorter delay (Mark II - the current one???). The one I tried yesterday seemed a significant further improvement.
