The latest Salisbury comes fitted with an LPX Lithium Polymer Battery.

As a cheap spare battery could the basic NiMH also be used?

Yes, the bike is unchanged and can use either the old NiMh or new Li-polymer batteries. The performance and range on the Li-poly one is slightly better, due in part to the lithium battery's slightly higher voltage.

You do need a charger for each though, they are different.
