It seems to me that the price of replacement batteries is the major outlay to consider, particularly when considering a used model. There is a 6 month old wisper on ebay and it has been used for commuting ...so want to factor in price of battery if I am to bid. and also a few ezee's on here as well.

could I get some help please with the cost of replacements for the following models:

wisper 905 Se:

Ezee sprint or forza:

Synergie Mistral:

cytronex:

Thanks, Eddieo

I know three of them off the cuff Eddie:

Wisper Lithium battery £299

eZee Lithium battery £395

Cytonex NiMh battery £150

I think the Synergie one is around £150, but hopefully someone will know for certain.

After my disaster with the 'Lightning' I bought off e-bay - I've done it again and bought the Ezee Forza you probably saw on ebay recently and also advertised by member Robert Letts on this forum.

I ended up paying £651 for the bike which I thought a fair price as the cost of replacement batteries as listed above by flecc are astronomic. The bike was 10months old and the odometer showed 190 miles so I consider there is probably is a fair bit of life left in it before I have to consider a replacement.
Apart from the gears requiring indexing the bike is superb and so far after only 30 or so miles on it I am very pleased with the performance.

I should say a thank you to Robert for bringing the bike to Temple Meads Station after I travelled down on the train from Worcester ( £6.60 return with my Senior Railcard discount - what a bargain) and rode it the 5 miles home from Shrub Hill Station on my return.

Fingers X'd now that this one remains reliable

The steepest e-bike battery price I know is the BionX lithium battery, $900, so £455 at todays rate.

Makes the others look almost cheap.

Your a real star! lol. so the wisper battery considering its power is not a bad price...

The reason for that Eddie is that David Miall of Wisper has decided to subsidise the battery price to what he feels they'll be in a couple of years time.

There's a widespread belief in the industry that battery prices will reduce with time.

As you say, it's a good price for a 37 volt 14 Ah lithium battery.

Battery and Bike costs

The discussion about the cost of batteries leads me to feel that somehow we ought to put together a data list for all currently available bikes, if that were at all possible.

I am in the market for a new bike and I find getting information a nightmare. I am constantly looking at the Forums and taking note of people's experiences with different bikes. Then I go to Google and shove the name of the bike in - and then find it is no longer available. And when I do find a firm that supplies it they do not answer questions like the cost of a new battery and whether or not there is a warranty on it and how long for.

Some bikes seem to come only from one source and others are handled by a variety of firms. Does anyone have any advice for someone like me trying to pin down a particular machine?

Thanks

Rod

A data list isn't practical Rod, since it would be a nightmare to keep updated due to constant model and specification changes, so would be unreliable.

However, you can get answers for most questions in this forum as there's nearly always someone up to speed with each subject, as you see above from my reply on battery prices for example.

To help you with a choice of bike, we need a start point really, what you want the bike for and range required, the type of bike you prefer, whether you want pedelec or throttle, the terrain where you'll use it, hills, steep hills or flat.

Bike choice

Hi Flecc

I have decided on the bike and bought it today! Synergie Mistral. I came to the conclusion that anything over £1,000 is too much to pay for a bike when you consider rate of depreciation and speed of technical development. I know I am going to keep the bike for three years max and it will be old hat by then, technically.

I was looking for reasonably light, recreational bike which would also have a rear carrier for mounting panniers. Some machines I looked at had their battery indicator lights down by the saddle, no good to me as I like to keep and eye on them. I wanted front suspension, V brakes AND a 36 volt system. The last reqirement thinned it down immediately.

I reckoned six gears would be sufficient beause I only use around six on my 21 gear Powabyke Commuter and I wanted a battery light enough to remove and easily carried. And the range had to be around the 20 mark under give and take conditions.

So the Mistral seemed to fit the bill. I have'nt ridden mine yet (although I gave the Electric Transport Shops bike a thorough working over) because I am charging the battery. I will report back when I have had a decent run or two on it.
