Is it possible to stretch a standard mtb/road rear frame to take a 175 mm motor? It looks a long way.

Yes....... Within reason.

Make a tool with threaded studding and 2 nuts & washers, select the studding to suit the drop out size.

You will have to over stretch cos when you release the tension it will spring back a bit

Have done a similar task on the front forks, I was carefull to put even amount of turns on each nut when opening up the forks

The answer is "probably", so you need to be more specific about exactly which frame.

Why do you want to go that far? I'm intrigued!

Thats the problem its a good 30 mm or more, I know Cwah split his bracing and sleeved it, which I might have to do. Need some more gas, only got gasless wire left, ok for clagging angle iron or Tonaro magnets, but not for frames :p

Sorry Dave missed your post. Just messing with wifes old mtb/hybrid and got a spare rear hub from a Powacycle. Gives her a spare bike and me a play about.

30mm is only 15mm each side, lol

Yeah gasless is pants and only fit for out side work in high winds where the visual quality doesn't matter
