My next project will be centered around a decent mountain bike, maybe 24" rear wheel, 26 front. Rear hub motor, brushless and gearless, 48v probably 1000w nom. Power will be from RC lipos - which I already have. I may go to 72v so will spec accordingly at the outset.

I want a decent hill climber and something that will cruise at near 30mph on the flat - off road of course.

I'm not buying a bike or even an off the shelf kit. I'll piece it all together myself. I'm lacking the expertise of many of you but have had about 8 years with ebikes now and can do all the assembly work myself.

I don't want to spend a fortune and won't need to IMO.

Other than crystallite, (price) and if you were I, what motor would you start with?

Good luck with your new hands on first build,i'm sure that you'll be ok. At first glance i saw that you were planning in using a 100w motor, then after opening up your thread realised that you had mistakenly left out a zero, and at that time i was thinking to myself what was the point.:)

Hi The 2 items you need are on Ebay in the UK

Electric Bicycle E-Bike Conversion Kit 48V 1000W Brushless Motor RearWheel Rack | eBay

Thanks Frank. However the first link is to a geared motor which I'm trying to avoid. If I did go to 72v I'd be worried about planetary gear strength, heat, etc. the second is to a 72v controller when I was looking to start at 48v. Thanks all the same.

Regarding controller: I was thinking of biting bullet and buying a Lyen unless you can recommend something more sensibly priced. Does e-crazyman do a programmable controller?

Hello Frank,

In their advertisment the controller is 48 volts, what does this mean or what are they saying? I had always thought that a controller was in amps. Or maybe it could mean that the controller can facilitate a 48 volt battery power pack.:)
