Thanks Kal, our posts crossed. Yes, that clearly shows the cable entering through the central hole, as it does on mine. Many thanks for helping with that photo.
Yes Pete, on our 2008 Mistrals, the cable enters through the hole in the centre of the axle. On yours, the cable enters along a channel machined in the side of the axle. The truth is, that channel is not deep enough. That is why the nut is scraping the insulation when it is undone.I think I will get a couple of those sidewinder tubes, if they work will save a lot of heartache.
Bob, I am a bit confused now reading the exchange between you and Kal and the photo he sent. Are you saying that yours is similar to his and enters through the axle rather than up a groove on the outside, that is what I would have expected to find to be honest.
Pete
Thanks for clearing that up Bob. The other photo posted by Kal is how I expected it would be. When I did the job today and actually had to deal with the cable I couldn't for the life of me think why it should be done in that way, it really didn't make any sense to me. It is almost impossible to remove the axle nut without inflicting some damage on the cables. As you say it is likely to cause problems and having seen what the results on the cable were in just one operation of loosening and tightening the axle nut I can only agree. I will post the picture of my setup here again for future searchers.Yes Pete, on our 2008 Mistrals, the cable enters through the hole in the centre of the axle. I have to agree with what you said previously, It's very poor engineering. I suspect It's going to cause a few problems for owners in the very near future.
Bob, let me disabuse you of that notion immediately, you gave me helpful advice and couldn't possibly know that such a change had been made. Yes to an extent I took some confidence from your experience but that was nothing but a truthful account of your particular machine. As one who has always praised the Mistral for it's reliability and value for money, I now have to view the machine, particularly this latest model, in a different light.
I honestly had no idea that the cable entry into the motor had changed in this way. I nevertheless feel responsible for leading you into purchasing this latest model, and I can only apologise for misleading you regarding the quality of the machine.
