I have a Gazelle Ebike and the good lady has a Halfords Crossfire Ebike both for around 3 years old.

The Crossfire started cutting out Autumn 2018, not all the time but when it does happen it can do it a about 20 times in a row then work well for another two 15 mile runs.

From reading the forum over the years it appears Halfords Techs have no real cure for the issue and sometimes they fix it, other times they fail.

I thought about taking Halfords to the small claims court but life is too short.

Therfore we have bought a Riese and Muller E bike that fitted my Good Lady like a glove as a replacement.

I would not be happy selling the Crossfire on as it is a liability and I guess will get worse re cutting out as time goes on.

Has anyone tried to refit the bike with new non original electrics as we would like to get it reliable again to allow friends to come out with us on a run.

I assume that it may well have some specific fitting that would make it difficult to source parts that would fit and make it a reliable unit again.

Comments please.

If itwere my bike,I'd open the battery case and teplace the BMS with a standard Chinese one, then I'd replace the controller with a KT sine wave one and appropriate LCD. To join the motor, I'd cut the cable off the old controller and solder the wires direct to the new one. Finally, I'd replace the crankset with a cheap Hollowtech one and fit a standard pedal sensor.

BMS £15
Controller and LCD £60
Crankset £60
PAS £5
Total cost £140

The battery is the culprit, I changed mine to 48v. Ironically I have cutouts now if I push the current too high... But yes a KT controller and potentially a higher voltage battery make for an amazing ride

I can only speak for my Crossfire but it does cut out very occasionally...but hardly ever In reality but often it's been associated with a bump in the road which to me means...a loose connections. Where is the $64,000 question ...and can you do anything about it ? (Obviously not, Halfords would have the answer by now if it were possible)
Bit of a pointless comment really :D
