My trusty old pedal cycle has done at least 15,000 miles in its three and a half year life. I am still on the original chainwheel, but have renewed the chain and freewheel about three times. I decided to renew the wheel bearings. The bearings are cheap, about £3 off ebay for both wheels. the rear hub takes the one eighth inch size, and the font hub takes the three sixteenth size.

You also need cone spanners, which are cheap to buy. A useful tip is to take the balls out of the packet and put them into an ashtray or similar. Count them out in advance. Front hub takes ten bearings each side, rear hub, nine a side. The whole job took about one and a half hours. New cones are available if needed, but mine were OK. I feel the satisfaction of a job well done.
