Hi,

I have had my Salisbury for over 6 months now and was wondering how long the battery would last. I only have a short commute which is about 7 miles round trip and when I get home I put the battery on charge and then in the morning put it on a quick charge before I leave for work. It has only ever gone to 2 lights on a couple of occasions.

I was thinking of selling the bike after about 12 months and have only done about 300 miles on the new motor but 200 miles on the previous motor which failed. So in total the battery has done about 500 miles.

Although I've not used my salisbury as much since getting the Wisper, I had done over 2600+ miles on it since December 2008. For work journeys it was 14 miles total before each charge, and for journeys to friends 26 miles.

With that short commute and partial use between charges, the battery should be still in very good condition at one year old and the bike could be a good buy for someone then. I'd expect that battery to last about two years under those conditions, maybe a bit longer if the terrain is not too taxing with steep and long hills etc.

Because the life of bike and battery are so different, they need to be dealt with separately to get a second hand value and I created a formula for this that many use. You can read about it on the link below, but in essence in your case, it's the original price of the bike less the current battery price at time of sale and less 25% for the year of use, but then half the battery price added back to account for the remaining year's life.

Assuming you paid £699 for the bike, that comes to about £450, which can be adjusted slightly up or down depending on condition.
