Today on a group ride what sounded like the clutch on my Sirocco CD motor became disengaged . Every time I switch on the power, there is a graunching sound which seems like the motor will not engage the crank.

Would anyone know if this is repairable?

Thanks
John

It's not the clutch, even though it sounds like it. It's most likely a simple motor connector problem. Motors make that noise and do the graunching when they lose sync with the controller.

Thanks. Is this something that is expensive to repair? I watched some videos, bit daunting.

Shouldn't be expensive. In the worst case, it could require a new controller. It's not very common for the problem to be in the motor itself, but it can be caused by damage to the motor cable if you dropped the bike. That's difficult to repair.

Did anything change before the problem occurred, like you took the wheel off to fix a puncture, dropped the bike, washed it or adjusred something?

The only change I made, was to remove the chain guard. This was because the chain came off a couple of times and got jammed between the guard and frame.
As the motor is sealed I wouldn't have thought this would be an issue.

I'm thinking of damage to the motor cable, not the motor/
