Setting up a Panda Bike LCD KD21C for speed and distance?

Hi

I am setting up a LCD KD21C on my bike and the bike works, and the display is on, but it does not show speed or distance traveled. I think that this has to do with a setting under the Speed Sensor Option where I need to enter the number of magnets in my motor. A 36V 250W rear hub motor with the name Ningo Zhebhai Minda Electromechanical Co. Ltd and number MD36V250W09076018. I have entered 1-15 with no result.

Any tips greatly appreciated

Did you buy the controller, LCD and motor as a kit or did you buy something separately?

If it was a kit, the setting would be most likely 0,1 or 8. If you didn't buy it as a kit, you don't have a speed sensor, in which case you need to get one.

We need more info about your kit and controller to give more accurate info.

Hi, I already had the motor, and the rest of the kit was a Panda Eco system that I bought from Padaebikes. I guess the speed sensor is similar to the ones I have bought from Tesco in the past with a magnet on the wheel spoke. Can you get one that plugs into the controller somehow?

You can use any old cycle computer sensor, or buy a cheap one like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Bike-Cycling-Computer-LCD-Odometer-Speedometer-Stopwatch-SD-548B-HH-/311911503455?var=&hash=item489f5fd65f:m:mdBgRRnacpF8PnGfIZCfxDw

Cut the head off and separate the two wires for a couple of inches. One wire goes to the white wire that normally joins to the motor cable, and the other goes to any ground. If it doesn't work like that, then the second wire goes to any 5v. No harm will come if you get that wrong. Some controllers have the signal wire float at 5v and use the sensor to pull it down to ground and others have it at 0v, which is pulled up to 5v.

If you have the 9-pin moulded plug on your controller for the motor, then you need to open the controller to cut the white wire.

You still haven't shown a picture of your controller, so I can't tell you exactly what to do.

Good morning. I am familiar with the white wire that comes from the controller to the motor, just was not sure of its function. I will buy a cycle computer sensor today, they have them at Maplin for about £4.

I am re doing the wiring from the motor to and making it a bit shorter today, so when re connecting the connectors I will wire in one wire from the new sensor to the white wire and then the other to the red or the black leading to the motor. it is a white six pin connector and then three bullet connectors for the power. Am I right in saying that my choice on the LCD would be 1 magnet? IMG_0415.JPGIMG_0416.JPG

The magnet setting may be for 1 magnet as in 1 pulse per wheel revolution. Does the lcd setting go above 15 ?

I found a cycle computer in Wilko today and all is working after following your instructions. Thank you.
It turned out to be the black wire that the second wire needed to be connected to after having connected up the white connection. And set to one magnet seems to be required setting. The LCD has the option to go up to 15.
