Shall I repair or use as spare?

Hello all,

Someone sold me his ebike for spare for 50GBP:

Apparently the bike isn't in production anymore. I was initially thinking to use the bike as spare and just take the motor out of it.

But finally the bike doesn't seem so bad, although I weighed it at 20.86kg without battery...

Now, there is no way to find a spare battery or even a second hand battery. So, question:
- Shall I try to fix this bike and find a way to replace the missing battery box (Not sure how yet)
- Or shall I just use this bike as spare and take the motor and controller out of it?

Thanks Dave, I know I can buy a new battery but it's quite expensive for such a cheap bike.

This bike when new cost 150GBP. (with gel battery), but at 20.86kg it's a really heavy bike. And I was wondering if I shall go into the trouble to fix it?

Can you bodge one of your existing batteries onto it for a trial run? that should help with deciding what to do.
Even if you put a temperary rear rack on it and run a couple of wires to the input.

Hello John, I'm good. Back to France now and still having both my bromptons :)
Nowaday I'm thinking to also have a bigger bike for more comfort, pavements and stairs are really annoying.

I took this bike mainly for the motor, I can definitely send it to you for free ;) However because of the size of the parcel it would cost 80 euro to ship it so more expensive than the bike itself.

My goal is to fit the motor to this 100euro spare bike I have:

It allows me to run on stairs and pavements without any issue.

I've started to put the controller on 24V and move the pedal to see if the motor is working:

Nothing was happening... like no power at all.

The power light is turned on:

Pedal sensor seems to be correctly fitted:

And all wiring is connected:

I'm scratching my head and wondering if the controller is down...

Finally found it. The brake sensor was turned on!! Unplugged it and it works now!

Let's see how it goes :)

Ok, I've set the voltage to 43V to see if the controller can handle 36V battery... it can!

It has a no load power consumption of 25W at 26V
And a no load power consumption of 50W at 43V

The wheel is untrue, I have to fix it and see tomorrow how the motor is working on 36V set up.

If good enough, I'll install the motor to my mountain bike.

Tried to have a run a 36v. It works flawlessly.

It runs at 20mph and uses 450W constant. This motor is less efficient than my Mac motor. At the same speed I think the mac would use around 350W-400W constant
