i recently bought a emotion E-motion Cross Deluxe, from onbike and love it. now is the time to insure it as im taking it on holiday, so i thought i would try cycleguard (as they advertise on here) and to my dismay they wanted £144 and that was for basic cover - no recovery
is that normal my postcode is ta6

is there any discount codes available?

I certainly would not pay that..you would also no doubt have to make sure that it was impossible to steal...probably carry an anchor chain.

...try to put it on your household insurance for little or no extra charge.

I had the same problem - £150 for a bicycle policy... My car insurance is less than that...

Insurer wouldn't add the bike to my existing home policy as it was over £600 so switched to an insurer who would put the bike on the contents as an extra for £15. They would only insure up to £1500 and the accessories aren't covered but better than nothing...

I bet your bike is easier to steal than your car....people target high value bikes (non e bikes) because they are easy to strip and sell as parts...you tell an insurance company my bike is worth £1,500.00 alarm bells ring...in fact what they are saying is we don't want your business.

Also the high end bike is easy to commit fraud with. Used to work with a guy who claimed every 2 years for 2 bikes. never actually had one stolen. Makes me sick.

I can say though, having dealt with both home and cycleguard insurance, that cycleguards level of cover is second to none. They paid out for me no problems when the warehouse my exceedingly expensive DH bike was in burnt down.

Home insurance would have just laughed in my face. There is no point having insurance if it doesn't cover you for the unexpected!

Just insured my brand new Wisper 905 se City worth £1500 with my household insurers - Direct Line. I gave them a full description, leaving nothing out and they wanted £17 extra on my policy - brilliant!

string or ribbon for my City?

I've just has the same experience with State, the previously governement owned insurer here in NZ. The only proviso was I have to leave it locked. "What standard of lock," I asked. "Anything would do. A bit of string."

No wonder you can't actually buy a kryptonite lock over the counter in this country.
