SLA to other type of battery

Is there a lighter battery to replace the 12v/12ah sla battery on my Ezip Ezgo and would the use of another type of battery damage the motor/controller etc.,the one thing i do know is that i would need another charger.

Any type of battery, including lithium, of the correct voltage will work and it need not be quite as large capacity as 12 Ah. Although each battery inside the case is a 12 volt one, they will be wired in series to give a higher voltage. If there are two batteries in the case, it's 24 volts, if it's three batteries, it's 36 volts.

If you measure the internal dimensions of the casing on your bike (bike shown below), you may be able to get a pack that fits within it from a supplier such as Li Ping. However, it's more likely you'd need to mount an alternative battery on the rack and arrange connections for it.

I have a spare Powacycle Windsor battery that is being fitted to the Izip case. the cells fit, but I have yet to wire every thing up. Flecc I do believe is an expert with these cells and might know a good source.

That was on the NiMh battery packs that were in the Windsor/Salisbury bikes originally. I used these to inexpensively refurbish the batteries on the early Panasonic units. I've never used the later li-polymer pack for a similar purpose though it would fit the same, but that's for price reasons.

The original NiMh Powacycle battery was £99 so one could afford to buy it for the pack inside and scrap the case. The li-polymer one that replaced it was £199 at first and is now £312, so no price advantage.
