Nice !!

$640.00 USD (388 GBP + taxes, duties)

Renaissance Bicycle Company

"
The second is a slick 8.5Ah lithium iron phopshate (LiFePO4) battery in a flat plastic enclosure for those wanting the iron phosphate chemistry. Both come with rapid 4A aluminum chargers which can top up a pack in short order.

Hello fishingpaul, could you edit your message and remove the quoted part, as it's quite hard to read your reply ;)

I wonder if the pack contains a circuit board for balancing and managing cutout charging thresholds ?

Cheers, Dan

Yes, I would think it does, otherwise it would not be sold with a dedicated charger. It is designed to be used as a stand-alone battery.

If you are considering using it as an additional battery, combined with an existing one, then you would need to use the appropriate diodes to prevent cross chargeing.

Member TIBERIUS has designed his own diodes for this purpose.

I would reccomend reading the long term test ezee in the technical thread, wai won ching mentions the new lifepo4 battery as primarily a secondary battery,to extend the life of other batteries unless i missed something.

I fully understand what your saying regarding the original purpose of that battery. It appeared after some owners, including one forum member, who experimented with NiMH booster packs in an attempt to prevent cut-outs when the Torq 1 was pulling 20 amps from the main battery.

I cannot for one moment believe that ebikes.ca would offer for sale a bare lithium celled array devoid of any management system, especially as it's supplied with a charger. Hence my statement that it could be used as a stand-alone battery.

I wasn't entirely sure how Daniel might want to use it, which is why I alerted him to the availabilty of Nicks "ideal diodes".

I currently use a 36V 10Ah Li Ping LifePo4 battery on my 250W Bafang-equipped Brompton (small 16" wheels). I'd like to have a smaller second battery for the same bike on shorter journeys, and also to use it for my future 180W Tongxin-powered project (also a Brompton, ...well, an alloy-framed clone called "Merc" to be precise).

I think this ebikes.ca 8.5Ah battery would be perfect, as my power requirements are not very high, and the range would intentionally be limited.

I suppose that the peak current draw on the eZee Torq is too high, thus why the battery is sold as a "secondary" unit ?

Cheers, Dan

This is undoubtedly going to be available in the UK as well from the eZee agents Onbike.

eZee do intend it at present as a secondary battery and new production will all be prewired for that, but they
intend to launch it later in a standard eZee case as well for short range owners to use it alone.
