Smart Bike

I had a short test on the Smart Bike today. It's a real masterpiece of engineering and very well put together . Unfortunately, its function doesn't match its form. I wasn't able to try it on any significant hills to test its power. The motor was very smooth and quiet, and the three-speed gear changing was excellent, but the frame is so rigid that you feel every bump, and it hurts. It's crying out for a Suntour NCX seat post
Also, it's very heavy with its Bionx motor. Changing the power levels was not too eady because the buttons are a long way from the grip. So, I have to summarise with nice try but no cigar. Maybe the Mk 2 will be batter.

It is effectively very similar to the Grace with BionX except the former has a 250watt motor while in the UK the Smart bike comes with a 200watt motor. Also range on both bikes is not great for the money.

I had another go on it today - this time on a hill. It's not at all bad powerwise. The ride is generally smooth and quiet. The only bad points are the jarring you get when you go over a sharp bump, and the weight if you have to lift it up. You don't notice the weight when riding it. We did a side by side by side rolling test against a normal geared hub-motor bike (Ave). On it's own the Smart seemef like it had minimal resistance, but there was quite a difference against the Ave.

I think that generally it's a nice bike. I think that it will appeal to those that like iphones and ipads plus people that like designer stuff.
