hi all today took a heavy strimmer strapped to my ebike for repair, then onto a gasrden centre purchased some plants and a large bag of potting compost (21lbs in weight)
about a mile from home a peddle breaks in half, battery is vitually depleated walk mode non existant.

pushing an ebike +load up and down hill was very tiring 24.4 miles mainly flat mode 2 of 3

drsolly something very similar happened to me this afternoon
going up a very steep track ,skinny wheels bogged down
on a real muddy bit, trainers sunk about 4 inches into the mud,

just managed to pull my feet out of the mire

I have been bike commuting for years, then ebike commuting

It quickly becomes all about reliability

The best setup , and the most failsafe is

Rear alfine hub gears
Front hub with an independant throttle
Marathon plus tires
Hydraulic disc brakes

Honestly , that's it. If the chain breaks the front hub takes you home

If. the hub breaks the gears and alfine get you home

Only a chain breaking and the front hub dying at the same time leaves you pushing never happened to me in a decade of daily commute

Can't really argue with that.....but I'm gonna ;)

My alfine took 7 years of daily abuse in all weathers, never serviced , kept in damp shed by the seaside (air corrodes everything )

Cost me 90 quid to replace with a new hub

Rolhoff are mega bucks for arguably rather limited extra reliability

Unless money really no object I'm not convinced.....
