Just a quickie to thank d8veh for the heads-up on the 45 watt soldering station from Lidl last week:

There might be a few left if you're quick.

It's the dog's doodahs for soldering Deans connectors & even has a graduated label on the temperature knob, which peels off so you can reposition it (for fine tuning:))

The flat bit puts some serious heat into 12g wires onto the deans terminals, both soldering & Unsoldering, when you realise you've forgotten to slide a bit of shrink-wrap up the cable
I've done a fair few with mine & apart from the end of the tip eating away a tad, i's fine.

In fact, the only gripe I have is the cable from the station to the iron - like most cheap tools, it's astiff plastic that takes up the kinks from when it's packed & cable-tied: damn thing seems to have a life of its own!

Just make sure you stash the iron snugly into its receptacle when it's hot - Being a clumsy beggar I didn't & it welded itself to the plastic collar

I bought one of those too and took the Maplins one which was twice the price back. Having the spade tip in the box for Deans connectors was great and it worked really well. Plus getting starter rolls of proper tin solder which Maplins aren't allowed to sell was a bonus. :)

There was also one left of the lower power version for circuit board work which I got for about £8 ..

Seems like good value

LIDL

I have had a couple of the Maplin ones (one failed after about 3 years), but recently got one of these 60W ones in the Jan sales for £35 at about half price. I have to say although more expensive its pretty impressive and is up to temperature within seconds of switching it on.

Buy cheap buy twice as the old saying goes.

Regards

Jerry

I bought one from Lidl a couple of years ago and it has been perfectly good.

The one currently available is newer version.

Remember, Lidl have a 3 year warranty, so taking it back is not a problem.

There won't be much joy from taking it back after a month; but sorting things out online is usually fine.

Depends on the unit and how you want to go - the Lidl smart car chargers are a regular item and there's a repair sub-contractor for them who will either repair or simply replace, as I found out last year.
Other things just get refunded in-store, on the spot.

I have taken goods back to Lidl and had a no quibble cash refund, the same with Aldi who refund to your card.

They can't be beaten for value for money products which is why we shop there regularly;)
