Well I have not been as active on the pedelec forum as I was when I was building my EBrompton but I have been beavering away rebuilding a Raleigh MK3 Moulton.
The F frame Moultons where first made in 1960s and were pretty unique having small 16" wheels and front and rear suspension. The MK3 was the last in a series of F frame models which took the UK by storm in the 60s. Designed by Alex Moulton, updated space frame versions are available today though now exclusive and very expensive bikes. More info here
I have updated this one with light alloy fittings which makes for a great fast run around. The frame still needs powder coating and I have to fit mud guards and the rear rack, but its almost there. I have now built five wheels in total since I started with my EBrompton. My latest here is a rear one fitted with a 3 speed SRAM T3 with a coaster brake in a 28 hole rim. I love these coaster brakes (pedal back to apply brake) as they are very effective. You can actually lock the back wheel plus you don't need a second brake assembly so save weight on cable, brake and brake handle.
Anyway as a bit of a giggle I thought I would "E" it to see how it performs. Although great fun, interestingly, as I have been using it for short trips to the shops and lazy summer evening rides unassisted I actually perfer it in its standard form.
Anyway here are some pics using the plug and play parts from my Brompton.
As it came, very oily and barely ridable
Fitted out with light alloy upgrades and temporary "E" fit
Plenty of room on the handle bars with only one brake handle. Horrible thumb throttle but its my only spare
Regards
Jerry
