He said that in Europe the speed allowable for Pedelecs is to be increased to one greater than the current 15.5mph and had been supplied the info by Bosch ...

There have definitely been no changes of the assist speed limit in EU law in either class, it remains 25 kph for pedelecs and 45 kph for S class high speed pedelecs.

In the UK on the 6th April 2015, the limit of 15 mph for pedelecs was adjusted to 15.5 mph to more accurately match the EU's 25 kph.

The dealer or Bosch may be confused about the high speed S class position in the UK. That class is illegal here and the DfT are not considering legalising it.

ok. thanks for clearing that up. My local dealer also said there was in issue with the latest bosch software updates as they keep throwing up error messages after updates...They are waiting for the next update before recommending anyone updates their bosch Firmware ---- Does the update give any extra features / improvements to the bosch system? I have a KTM with an active line motor fitted.

that's what he was saying - Current update throws up error codes - He advised waiting for next update as Bosch are aware of problems.

the active and performance motors are the same so if you want to go faster just get a dongle for the ktm you have.

I don't want to go faster - I'm happy with the current speed - just wondered if the firmware updates had any effect on performance / distance / battery levels etc

no as software cant do this if you want more rage the 500w batt is the 1 to get for more range.

a dongle will lift the 15.5mph limit but will drain any batt the faster you go

£700 for a battery is painful !!
I don't know what's in the Bosch battery, but the higher capacity Kalkhoff batteries have up to 56 of 3000 mAh 18650 cells. They cost over £10 each retail on ebay. Add the cells support frame, the BMS, the case and connectors etc and it can be seen where the £700 can be from.
