Folks -- I am somewhat torn between these two bikes - The Haibike has the Sram dual hub with 27 gears with the Intuvia screen and the other has the 10 gear cassette but has the new Nyon controller. The only other difference I can see is that the Haibike has 20mm bigger discs. As both are a similar price and the Nyon is about Euro500 worth, does the Haibike have significantly better components / frame to bring it up to the same price as the Bt80 with Nyon???

Anyone care to give me some advice??

I'd prefer the XT spec and Rockshox as fitted to the Staiger. I'm not fussed about Nyon, and mine hasn't been without it's problems, so I wouldn't let that rule out the Haibike. Simple is often better. The brake disc size on the Steiger is never likely to be an issue, but if it was, then it's a simple and cheap job fitting an adapter and larger disc. If I'm correct, then the Staiger is also lighter. Other than dealer location and supply, the one and only detail that would clinch the deal for me, is that I found the SRAM hub to be constructed from soft cheese. But, perhaps I was unlucky, and others have found it to be faultless. It's fitted to plenty of bikes, so I guess that I was.
If it were solely down to these two bikes, then my money would go on the Staiger. If you have the option, take a look at the KTM range as well. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/2015-ktm-macina-bosch-drive-bike-details-inc-rrps.18710/

Thanks, Eddie -- unfortunately the KTM is not an option here in Ireland -- also the dealer I will be dealing with is one whom I have absolute faith in due to gret service experience -- his brands are Haibike, Staiger, Kalkhoff and BH!

Cheers!

Spec looks similar to me, both typical good quality German trekking.

The Haibike is a kilo heavier, probably due to the extra gears.

Both have the performance motor, which lessens the need for the extra range of 27 speeds.

I think it comes down to looks and price, the Staiger is an understated, traditional looking bicycle which I rather like, you may prefer the look of the Haibike.
