This paddle steamer was built by Denny of Dumbarton (in liquidation 1963), the discovery of whose brass builder's plates on a many a ferry and short excursion vessel worldwide provided much nostalgic pleasure for ex-patriates and conscripted military and naval personnel for over a century.

The Denny List gives the following details:

Built 1937 for the Southern Railway company, triple expansion diagonal steam engine, (same as PS Waverley) trial speed 14.5 knots, (Waverley, 17.5 knots), bow rudder (unlike Waverley) for easier berthing, price £46,800!!

Career: replacement for Duchess of Norfolk, and a repeat of Sandown; war service: minesweeper and A/A vessel; out of service: 1970
