hi all, I'll apologise now as I literally got a bike today and have a small problem, so would appreciate some advice.

So, I bought a bike from a guy at work today, I test rode it yesterday in the wind so couldn't really hear much, but upon taking it home, the motor doesn't sound quite right to me? Just wondering if any of you could confirm if this is normal or not, if not, what the problem may be? He did say he had changed the gears in the hub, I am assuming they are the nylon planetary ones? I do t know much about bikes or motors.

Here is a link to a video I recorded to capture the sound.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

It's not right. I can't hear it enough to say what's wrong. Can you do another vid with it running for longer and put it under load by holding the brake on while it's running? Give it full throttle and use the brake to slow it down to about half speed, then hold it there for a bit.

I will do a longer video, but I won't be able to hold the break in and get it to run, there is a switch on the break lever that cuts the motor when you pull the lever. I had a daft thought, I weigh 95kg, I'm wondering if that's too much, I know the go cycle have a 100kg limit to them.

Operate the brake by pulling the caliper rather than the lever or disconnect the brake switch wire while you do the test.
