His hands are still in one piece in following videos :p

Have you ever used any of the waterproofing stuff? Nikkiwax is not that hand friendly either.
I havent tried his method but there are numerous videos of similar things apart from that particular one that I found.

If it doesnt suit, dont do it. It may spark an interest for others.

Something else I have gleaned is that the fabric must be clean before waterproofing. Any grease spots will stop the waterproof agent from adhering successfully.

Indeed they are:). It was much more the 'amateurish' way he went about his experiment that amused, rather than any flesh eating consequences of his lapse;)

Sorry:eek: Didn't mean to come across as disparaging. I just really feel that what he's trying to do isn't worth the effort.

I've never known Fabsil to work worth a damn.
I agree with you. It was only ever useful for tent fabric, particularly old cotton fabric tent material.
It's been around so long that I thought Mike Higgins was being ironic when he appeared to comment that the use of silicone for waterproofing fabric was worth googling.
There are now other much more effective waterproofing preparations - Nikwax (my personal choice) and Graingers (who now appear to own Fabsil, incidentally) being amongst them.

I'm really not trying to knock anyone's attempts to be inventive.
I shall fetch my coat...

When I mentioned Nikkiwax, I meant Nikwax. Dont let it get on your hands if possible. Or be prepared for some difficulty removing it. It does seem to come off with a mixture of washing up liquid and cif cream cleaner. But it takes a while and is like attempting to remove chewing gum from fabric :)

That was meant to have an irony icon, right?
Nope, otherwise I would have put one in.

I get myself involved in all manner of projects, many of them involving water in some way. Mixing silicone and fabric could be a useful 'tool in the box' for some current half thought out projects.
