Tom Stanton built one on his Youtube channel. IIRC, it did about 100 metres with full charge.

Yes - I remember that video. It kind of makes the point I wanted to make above about how useless they are as a source of energy for propulsion - except for a VERY limited time.

Our Argos e-move folders seem to have a super capacitor in the rear light. When we apply the brakes and the brake light comes on brightly, some of the current switched to the brake light is used to charge a super capacitor and this slowly discharges into a not very bright red LED which continues to glow as a rear light. It isn't terribly bright, and if you were on a long dark ride which did not require much braking it would go out pretty soon - probably in about three minutes. I have fitted a red blinkie on the back of mine for the very occasional time I might be riding in the dark.

Did you notice that he doesn't mention range? That's because the super capacitor will drain in a few meters. Even my Argos e-move folder has a range of 18 to 20 miles from am 8.5 Ahr battery. My other bike with a three year old battery can still take me 40 miles or 30 if I do barely any work. That gimmic bike will barely get you down the street.
