Hi All,
I am looking to convert My trusty Trek T900 Tandem to give a little help on the larger hills and maybe strong head winds, I am fairly fit and like pedaling ( Wife maybe not so much :)) so would not using the motor all the time. Our rides tend to be around 30 miles sometimes upto 50 miles and currently I limit the amount of climbing to 400m assent in a 30 mile ride.
I have looked at some off the purpose built e tandems but they tend to be the wrong size for the stoker as I need a small 14.5 inch frame on the rear so the best option my be a DIY conversion.

I had a chat with a local e bike shop today who sells bbs 01 kit and he did not it would work well as it would be best mounted at the front (captain )and my chain wheel that drives the rear in left mounted
.
So I have been looking at rear hub motor conversion and think the XD double speed could be a good option considering the extra weight of the tandem ??

Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

you want something 1000w plus for that sort of waight.

Does this motor produce good torque? Me and the wife's combined weight is 127kg / 20stone plus a bit of luggage.

the motor is Bafang SWX02 laced to 26" rim, controller is Lishui 18A. Maximum draw is 40V * 18A = 720W. That shoulld be OK for your need. They sell also the Big Bear kit, Bafang BPM motor + Lishui 20A controller but it's not road legal because the motor is marked 350W and sold as such.

I'm 100kg on my own and well over 50 and a 250 watt kit gets me going great. I spend most of my time without assist as it cats at 15 mph but under that it helps up hills and at the traffic light drag race.
The woosh gear is good and torquey

Cheers will give woosh a call.
I did note on there web site that the swx02 only comes on 650b wheels.

I just need something to give me a hand up hills, on the flat I will tend to be around the 15mph mark, having a motor will open up more hilly rides for us :)

they have SWX02 on 26" rear rims that they use to assemble the Sport in Southend. It shouldn't be a problem for them to sell you one instead of the same on 650B if you ask.
