Telefunken's prototype e-bike

Gocycle aren't too happy about this Telefunken machine - it apparently uses parts and patented designs, so they Gocycle boss was on a plane to Berlin as soon as he saw it. They're not selling them yet though, so no breach as such.

Yet more evidence that all the serious electric bike development is happening around the middle motor configuration now.

Yes, there are some impressive new entrants now.

Odd to think that this layout is where we started out in Britain with e-bikes back in the 1980s and beyond, the recently discontinued TDK electrobike the last evidence of those early designs. Then in came cheap friction drives onto tyres and Oriental wheel-hub motors and the rest is history.

Feast your eyes - there are around a dozen distinct middle motor bikes in this thread (photos from Eurobike) - some of them look very expensive as well, €5000+ range. Others just look... odd. And look, there's a friction drive too!
