Tesco Hopper Battery issue

I have a Tesco Hopper but the battery no longer seems to charge up. When I connect it to the charger, the red light on the charger just keeps flicking on and off. The led on the battery says it still has about 50% charge left, as I have used it sparingly for steeper hills only. The battery is the original and been used on and off for 6 years or so. I am presuming it has reached the end of its life but would like to check before trying to replace it. Can anyone recommend how I’d check? I see there seem to be similar batteries available that come with new connectors and chargers. Do I need to change the cradle or would a new battery just fit my existing bike.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

One can open the case up to find the battery pack and fitted BMS, then via the BMS one can check the cell group voltages to see if the battery is balanced or not. If the battery pack is unbalanced then likely a cell group or two might have a higher voltage so once these reach 4.2v the BMS stops charging leaving the other groups un balanced and at a lower voltage level. If the battery just doesn't charge then a cell group may be too low to allow charging to take place, one will only know if the battery case is opened and voltage readings can be taken.
Take some pics once opened and we can guide you how to take readings.

I have six y/o batteries still giving good range/mileage use.
