It’s great for some peddling all the way but for most (my own opinion) no peddling all the way with a electric bike is the best:D but will require higher motor rating and battery power and will make it a lot quicker to the finish line without braking a sweat.

A very untypical ride on the e-bike, he ended up more exhausted than on the unpowered one. He was using the e-bike to improve performance, completely missing the point and the opposite of what they are for, which is to make life easier.

Not a good ad for e-biking, giving the impression it's still exhausting it would put off lots of people.

If I was looking to purchase or some further info on ebike and I came across this add I most likely end up with a standard one or just buy a bike water bottle and start jogging.

So anyone looking into electric bikes this add is Completely missing the point as flecc said.

It's a 6 kilometer Continuous slog on a 200 watt bike!

The 1st guy did it (back to back, assumedly) on an unassisted, Then assisted - I'd be more than puffing a bit.

The 2nd guy has a heart condition & still beat the other's unassisted time, while taking it easy...

What more could anyone ask of a 200 watt bike?

Of course, they should have used a Stealth Bomber, then we'd all be impressed.

Beating the other's time, that says it all for me. It's not what e-bikes are for, they're for making life easier, not for racing.

If they'd taken it easy, taken longer and not been out of breath, then I'd have been impressed that e-bikes do what they are intended to do.

First rider was obviously a bit spent after the first ride, but was then able to do it all over again on an electric bike and in a quicker time, second rider was able to beat the time of a keen cyclist on a racing bike, even after having had past heart problems,i think this is what people overlook the fact that an electric bike, can be used to enhance cycling ability and make it more enjoyable, getting a little out of breath from helpfull pedalling along can be fun,and totally different from struggling for breath when slogging up a hill on an unpowered bike.

Quite true for me as well Paul, but it's our enthusiasts view. The people who you say overlook that fun exercise element are the very people we need to convince about e-biking. The only thing that impresses them is clear evidence of a rider having an easy time. Any hint of someone out of breath, whatever the circumstances, and they will be turned off the idea.

We've all had people ask about our e-bikes and their usual questions, how fast can it go and can it climb the hills ok. Doing any pedalling is the last thing on their mind, and we've all seen their interest flag when we put them wise to the facts of e-biking.

The problem,as I see it, is how do you quantify the amount of enjoyment someone is having?

Climbing that hill in less time than the orthodox bike is immediately quantifiable - same hill, same effort, less time.

I reckon the rider could spout about how much more enjoyable the assisted run was, until the cows come home, without convincing anyone.
