I am in discussion with Grosvenor Shows Ltd,they organise the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh, the next show is 06May - 07May,2012. The 2011 kit car show,in my opinion, had some spare space and could easily add an electric bike area in tandem with the kit cars. The cost of entry was modest and the cost of the stand space is so much cheaper than the NEC. By piggybacking onto an already established show the small electric bike industry could benefit from the existing infrastructure without undue risk. The industry needs it's own show, the cycle show at the NEC is very expensive and much is probably not of interest to e-bike enthusiasts. I exhibited a number of e-bikes alongside our auto parts stand at the 2011 kit car show and the interest from kit car builders was considerable, within the kit car industry is a fledgling sustainable transport section, including electric race cars,so there is some crossover of interest.
If you are a trader and think this idea worthwhile please e-mail Grosvenor Shows Ltd,registering your interest. If you are a potential attendee or trader I would appreciate comments of support or concerns on this forum-not sure whether the e-bike industry is mature enough yet to have owners clubs but I am sure every supplier and retailer would welcome the opportunity to bring together both existing and potential customers.
The Stoneleigh venue is a pleasant one,car parking is easy and there is some room for overnight motorhomes and caravaners/campers,it has a good community spirit.
Your comments well received

Sounds good. Count me as a possible attendee.

Could I suggest that the Trade funds a stand for the non-trade members of this Forum. i.e. to meet up, and for our non-trade experts to answer questions from other members and from public, perhaps also to display their self builds.

The location of the venue certainly suits me and I would probably attend in a private capacity provided it does not clash with Presteigne, if in deed that does take place next year.
The question I have about Stoneleigh is would there be much space or opportunity for test rides?

John....anyone who knows the Stoneleigh venue (the National Agriculture showground)knows that there are miles of potential cyclepaths adjacent to the exhibition halls-at the back of hall 2 it would be simple to organise a test circuit-unfortunately its all on the flat so no hills possible.
10mph....it would be simple to organise a show area for unusual and superior self builds, maybe in the centre of the bike area, perhaps the pedelecs, atob mag and electric bike mag could get together to organise such a show area and promote their websites.

Stoneleigh venue...if you look on google earth...CV8 2LZ....reference 52deg20'19.05" - 1deg31'39.12"...to the right and below this building(hall 2) is a large concreted area....you can see a photo taken at the Pig and Poultry fair showing this area.

It's not too much of a trek for me, so count me in as a possible attended. The camping is always an extra bonus.

I wonder do Chesil show their Speedster there... The kit car show would be interesting to me anyway as I have always wanted to build one, particularly as they are based on air cooled VWs which I know inside out...

Yes Chesil showed their Porsche Speedster replica this year, they are regulars and are always next to my stand-nice couple who run Chesil-they were riding the Kudos bikes around the hall after the show closed!
