Now that the "worlds biggest sporting event" is coming to the UK this year, it occurs to me that there may be an opportunity here for the ebike fraternity to cash in on this event.

Certainly here in York, the council are getting into hyperdrive over the Grand Depart coming here on 6th July.

Any thoughts anyone?

There will, no doubt, be lots of TV cameras in the area. If 100s of people were running about on Ebikes there might be a bit of publicity.

OK, dozens of ebikes maybe. ;)

Would they be seen though? I doubt it, with a large crowd around the start and the initial parts of the route lined with crowds no e-bikes could get near the edge.

As someone didn't quite say: "They would, wouldn't they?"

For the council and their ilk, it's all free tickets, gladhanding and hospitality trailers.

They have made a prophecy - huge interest - and are desperate for it to come true.

Cycle racing is a minority pursuit within a minority pursuit - cycling.

Sure, plenty of people who have no interest in cycling will turn up, but I doubt there will be the millions those who have spent lots of public money on the tour hope there will be.

Catching and passing the leading riders on Home moss should get you seen on TV, but you wouldn't be very popular.
You'd be quite popular whith whichever company sold you the bike. Especially if their logo was shown on BBC news as to police were dragging you away.
