If this motor was used in lots of other bikes other than the ebco I have just bought, does anyone have another make of bike and is it nigh impossible to pedal to try to keep the speed up, once the assist stops at 15mph?

I think there must have been something wrong with your M16 motor, like the clutch wasn't disengaging. If you still have it, you can test that by hooking the chain off, then seeing how fast you can turn the crank with your hand. It should be completely free.

I can feel the motor resistance even when pedalling slowly with power off but with the chain still on.
I was thinking about a clutch problem too, but maybe these don't have clutches.

You have to test with the chain off to eliminate all other possible causes.

This is reason I wary buying on internet, well, this and only 1 year warranty on internet bikes.
