So I scored this 24V 17.5Ah battery originally for a mobility scooter I presume. I happen to have an ancient E+Plus pluse an equaly geriatric Zippy scooter both 24V rating...Result!:) Anyway, upon googling it,its a current item. But.The price literally floored me! ...Just south of a £1000.00 ...What gives?

Hard to give advice with no specific details.

Other 24V batteries are available.

Sure.Plenty other el cheapo 24 batteries out there. But this particular one why so expensive? All it says on the aluminium casing is Panasonic cells and UN38 listing....Will post pics later.

Incidentally it has transformed my hitherto lacklustre ancient Argos E Plus ! ..Well chuffed.

Very expensive for what is a24v battery and I suspect any 24v battery would have equally done the job.
My 24v 23.2ah Panasonic battery cost me £100 for the cells.

If ever you need a battery for a 24v e-bike, it's generallly better to use the opportunity to upgrade to 36v. The cost of a 36v controller is pretty insignificant compared with the cost of the battery, and the result will give you more range, more power for hills, plus a better cruising speed.

24v is sort of OK for 7st weeklings, but anybody with fat in their name probably needs 48v, though you can't upgrade a 24v motor to 48v because it will be too fast to be efficient, while as 36v is generally OK.

Yeah. But doesnt that also lead on to upgrade controllers etc....In my case hardly worth the bother on a 12 year old bike!...This battery was gratis BTW. Was just curious why its so expensive.

Because that is what they can get away with charging for it.

The motors last forever. A control system and battery upgrade converts the bike into a really nice machine that's a joy to ride, and 36v batteries are often cheaper than 24v ones with the same capacity. the difference in price can pay for the controller. It's definitely an upgrade worth doing on any bike. I've converted many 24v ones to 36v, and I'm doing another one right now.

The high cost is a symptom of clinical/medical pricing, while many goods with clinical applications are specified and engineered to higher standards, not all - stick the word Orthopaedic in front of a chair/bed and charge 10x the retail price of a similar item without the 'magic' word.

That's OK then- I was concerned you'd paid the eye watering amount!
