Well after 3 years of deliberating I bought a 2010 Trek FX+ second hand on EBay about 3 weeks ago with a new battery. It's now stopped working and the above appears momentarily on the screen when you first turn it on. Any ideas?

Hi,

have had a quick Google without luck, I guess you got no manual with bike. maybe try an email to a dealer or bionix themselves..some one may be along soon with manual in hand that can help:)

try these guy's: Bionx electric bike kit installation manual

found link to codes within above, but taking forever to load:

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/nycewheels/Consolecodes
My bike is over at my brothers as i cycled over and stayed for one too many drinks so left it. Will be picking it up tomorrow so will check but i think that is the code for europe software version 4.1 so normal and not an error code, but will check tomorrow.

I'll definitely have an answer tomorrow, just could not get moving today back at work tomorrow so no choice but to pick the bike up tomorrow.

Ok when i start mine up i get REU 5.3 so i guess the original poster meant REU 4.1 which was the old software version. I will go into more detail of the start up sequence if the original poster comes back.

I should add that if it is software version 4.1 i would take it to nearest trek FX+ dealer and upgrade it as this was a very troublesome version which caused no end of issues. I think thats all thats needed.

Update

Ok thanks for all the info. Have a look at the pics attached of the console display. Does it signify error code 55 which according to NYCE Wheels is "no communication between motor and console"DSC_4358.jpgDSC_4359.jpgDSC_4360.jpgDSC_4358.jpgDSC_4359.jpgDSC_4360.jpg? I have disconnected and re connected the wires but it still does not work.

I have seen the err 9 before after i washed my bike with a power washer, really stupid thing to do. The tell tale sign that you have a problem with communication is when you turn the console on watch the speed indicator it should count down. If it does not do this you will need to take it to a trek Fx+ dealer to get it reset, takes 2 minutes. But sometimes they have to reset each component individually and that takes longer.

Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem?

No, not yet its been at a local Trek dealership for a week so far. It seems there are Trek dealers and Trek dealers and you cant tell from trek's website which dealers have experience of or are authorised by Trek to work on their electric bikes. The story i have received so far from the dealer 125 miles away who originally sold the bike was that if a dealer wanted to sell trek electric bikes then they had to pay for some very limited training and they would be issued with a diagnostic tool. Then as time went on Trek didnt insist anymore on the training and just allowed other dealers to sell the electric bikes. Anyway the local shop i took the bike to turned out not to have ever been on any Trek training and Trek refused to even loan them the diagnostic tool when they asked for it. I must confess that i am surprised and disappointed by this attitude and poor business judgement by such a large commercial manufacturer bearing in mind this is a big ticket item.

Right, had the bike back now from the Bike shed Cardiff. They were the second trek dealership i tried and they did have the relevant diagnostic tools. They installed updated software, the 5.9 version. It cured the problem and the power delivery now seems to be smoother and the bike is running great. Overlander, you were right. Thanks to all for helpful comments.
