Very off topic: search for a Churchill quote

Apologies, but being driven mad by trying to find a quote attributed to Churchill. Have tried googling, etc.

It is approximately: 'Pray state, on a single sheet of paper, the requirements for a modern navy.'

Now, there's a challenge!

I think that was Churchill's dismissive response to a discussion on the traditions of the navy. Very droll, but keep thinking!

This would have better been in "the charging post" perhaps.

Anyway, this was the original.

It was an instruction to the First Lord of the Admiralty during the Second World War.

"Pray state this day, on one side of a sheet of paper, how the Royal Navy is being adapted to meet the conditions of modern warfare"
Ogilvy, 1983, p. 35

Thank you, brilliant.

Take your point about charging post - sorry, didn't think of that.

On Ogilvy's book - does he actually give a source? I have a copy of Confessions of an Advertising Man somewhere, but not here!
