We don't hear too much about these

On ebay today, there's a Gepida model with an £800 starting bid asked. Now, I know we have one or two owners of these machines in the forum but I think they're as rare as hens' teeth compared to mainstream ebikes in this country.

That said, I think A2B mag reported quite favourably on them when they were first introduced a few years ago and they are still available from some dealers. The motor is by Yamaha and I recall Flecc remarking it was very similar to Panasonic's unit.

It would certainly make a nice buy at £800 or close to that figure, I'd think.

I ride a Gepida (took me a long time to decide on the right bike for me) and I'm really happy with it. I wanted an upright ride. I live in a really hilly area and the crank driven motor gets me up the hills briliantly. It suits me fine. The only negatives I can think of is how far the battery will take you before recharge. I only make short journeys so far of no more than 7 miles there and back. If I'm feeling lazy or haven't ridden it for a while I use the battery on high and the return journey of 3.5 miles is mostly uphill and I use 2 of the 4 battery bars. Other times I only use the battery on low and switch it off for the flat parts of the ride and use just under 1 bar (ie, next time it doesnt take long for the one bar to go down). However I am overweight so that adds to the drain on the battery. Other minus is the bike stand was utterly useless (I bought it from E Bikes who offered to look at it and replace it but I never made it down to them). It just totally bent with the weight of the bike.

I really love my bike - a lot.

Wondering why the bike listed in Indalo's post has never been used and is for sale? This is an older model of over a year ago as the battery sits above the crank (sort of). The newer Gepidas have batteries on the rear rack.

I wouldn't want to change bike and if I had to buy another it would most likely be a Gepida again. Its a lovely comfortable ride.

Hi Penny

Curious to see their latest models, I searched the net and found this:

Gepida Electric Bicycles

It possibly explains why that older model is being advertised.

I'm glad you're still enjoying the Gepida as it's one of the bikes I seriously considered before buying my Gazelle. Like you, I'd be loath to have to part with my bike although it's not the most powerful around. I shall probably keep it for as long as it runs without the requirement of major investment but it'll be a hard act to follow although there are some (expensive!) contenders.

That looks like a very old model! I would be concerned re battery condition

Gepida now well up to date, and have some Bosch powered models also...

Yes, Gepida appear to have gone away from the Yamaha crank drive now, it never sold well. Basically a copy of the Panasonic one, it didn't have as smooth a power delivery at around cut of point and was always blighted by only having a small 8 Ah battery.
