covered some of the magnets up on the inside of the crank to fool the assist mech that you were pedaling slower than you actually were:)

robots.net - The Amazing Magic Robot is Always Right

This malfuction of the Magic Robot was caused by removal/covering one of his magnets, imagine the damage you could do to a bike.

Magic Robot technology was a early form of GPS - Used in my youth - Landed a man on the Moon - without it the Bike and Rider would be lost forever.

Dont try It! You will set oft a catastrophic chain of events... A chain reaction will start, and we will all be sucked into a black hole! How do I know this? I watch Battlestar Galactica and I passed U level physics:eek:

I don't know if what you have works the same way but on my Wisper the magnets are unevenly spaced so it knows which way the pedals are rotating. If I removed some magnets then the correct sequence would not be generated and no power would be applied.

It can work on some bikes with evenly spaced magnets and simple controllers that sense only rotation speed, but you'd probably need to remove the magnets to ensure the field isn't still sensed, since any covering you put in place could still allow the field through.

Many bikes aren't restricted though, the top speed being the motor's natural limit on the supply voltage, so you might not gain anything.

Thanks lads, it was just a thought. Not sure I`d want to try it just in case it blew the controller but as we get more and more familiar with these things I`ve no doubt that some things will become apparent.

Good news – Your original Magic Robot tracked down and found working.

Your Magic robot has learnt to speak in the last 50 years and no longer needs to be placed on his mirror to answer questions.
Below is a transcript of our initial game

Herb - “Magic Robot, Based on the recent Pedelec contest , Predict the name the 2009 E-Bike of the Year. I will give you two clues based on poularity in the ownership survey by the same group.
1. Same as a well known chocolate bar.
2. Another term for quietly speaking."

Magic Robot – “Other”

The amazing Magic Robot - ALWAYS gives the RIGHT Answer

Herb

PS. Unfortunately the Magic Robot got the wrong answer
The answer is of course ....Brompton.
