What's happening with the Brompton ebike?

Is Brompton anywhere near producing a factory ebike?

Last I heard the project had been delayed because one of the component suppliers - might have been the motor - had ceased trading.

Brompton were sending out regular email updates to prospective customers.

I've not seen one of those for months.

What, if anything, is afoot?

Yes all on hold. Rather diappointing given how much it was played up but understandable by a company that cannot risk its reputation or quality and reliability.

I myself have been working on Brompton conversions for some time.

This is my latest and lightest using a M2L-X and a light weight narrow Keyde Goldant motor. Total weight of the bike/motor 11.5kg and about 2kg of battery and electrics in the Brompton C bag. At the height of the Brompton press on their offering, I emailed details and pictures to Brompton and had a invite down to visit and show their designers my offering. I was excited as they also promised me a tour round their factory. Unfortunately when their offering hit the stops they also rescinded the offer. Obviously I was very disappointed :(

As you said its all been quiet for months now.

Regards

How come the offering hit the stop? What happened? They didn't like your conversion?

It was not my conversion. They only wanted to see that out of curiosity.

Their own design was all set to go and then as I understand their motor manufacture went under. Of course like all these things that was the speculation the actual reason may be more complex as they never formally said why.

oh ok too sad. I knew it wasn't your conversion but they should have let you see the factory even though production hasn't started..

Agreed. Poor form.

Team hybrid have produced a new motor with ch white. I saw a photo on their Facebook page so I emailed them. No details yet though. Few weeks time.

When I had my Brommie converted by Nano I was told Brompton were quite good at ringing to ask Nano about technical stuff, but a lot less good at helping Nano in the other direction.

For example, Brompton refused to supply bikes to Nano at dealer discount.

Seems to me Brompton have a bit to learn about fair dealing in business, not to say simple good manners.
