When i ordered 72 191mm 13g spokes from china (at the time it was the only place i could get them) i didn't realise the wheel required dishing so much, one wheel laced up ok but the other had a differnet rim where i was struggling to engage the spokes, it was my only option. It's seems safe enough, of course you can never be totally sure about failures but probably better to have the spokes threaded in further.

So can you supply 13g spokes at any length with your new wizzo machine?

Yes, any length of 13g, 14g, single butted 14/15g, single butted 13/14g and double butted in various sizes. For the power enthusiasts 12g will be added in the next few weeks.
Min length is around 40-45mm, max is the longest length I can get the spokes:)

Cutting and rethreading is a viable option if you have spokes that are too long.

Cardboard dishing tool duly made from the diagram in Roger Musson's book and taken out most of the dish before final tensioning and truing as recommended. Used in-situ with axle sat in the dropouts on an upturned frame.

Used it in place of a truing stand so I can sit down and work on tensioning the spokes by spinning the wheel and check the dish after each pass. The gear cable to the derailleur does get in the way a bit but not enough to make using the dishing tool a problem.

Took about 1/2 an hour out to double-check I was measuring to the right points from various sources... there was some serious dishing error in the wheel (well over 1cm) and seemed pretty high. Had to tension the drive side spokes between 3 and 4 complete turns to eliminate it, but I think this is down to the spoke lengths being equal and seemingly isn't a problem as long as enough tension remains in the non-drive side spokes and that they engage sufficiently with the threads (which at the moment they do).

Now going to work on vertical and lateral trueness on the dished wheel. Next time I will definitely oil the spokes and inside of the spoke holes before getting to this stage, but I'd already laced the wheel before clocking this tip and got too many other things mounting up to get on with on this build to go back to the beginning. Hopefully I'll get away with it - else I'll be disassembling and starting from scratch :).

No problem on the hijack.

Finished the wheel, Finally. 14 hours of learning later  All destressed and final tensioning completed. Not perfect but few are I reckon ... checked the dish and it's very accurate. A little bit out on vertical trueness (not wildly though) .. beginners' curse .. but well within tolerances on lateral trueness. There comes a point when you have to say - it's as good as I can reasonably get it.

Definitely learned loads and so glad I did this but way underestimated the time it would take having never done it before. next one will be a lot easier I reckon.

Job done. Now bed ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
