Hello

I'm hoping you are able to help me make my mind up?!

I live in Dorset and am relatively fit (I run 1/2 marathons etc) but I want an electric bike which will make my commute to work easy, so that I don't arrive all hot and sweaty. Going to work isn't too bad, but going back its a quick climb of 350 ft.

So far I've tried the Giant Twist, Go Cycle and a Bearprint, but I'm very undecided. I want to get the bike on the cycle-to-work-scheme and would appreciate your thoughts on which bike I should look at next! By the way, I'm a female so would like a step through frame.

Many thanks
Moglie

Have you considered the cytronex? Not sure if they have a step through though. How far is your commute?

Hi Moglie

Naturally I would recommend one of our bikes; Daum, Emotion or Velospeed, but you must try as many as you can and see which feels the best fit for you. It's a very personal decision and there are all sorts of factors which can be discussed but it only becomes clear when you try them out, really.

You may also find the information on AtoB useful: UK Electric Bike Buyer’s Guide - Reviews of the best electric bikes in the UK.

Only 6 miles in total, but I know you'll think this mad, I like to get up early in the morning, do a training run, get a shower.... then ride to work. I'm not a huge cycling fan, but want to do it more for the "green" reasons, rather than the fitness reason, as I'm already fit.

Seems perfectly reasonable apart from the not liking cycling. What was wrong with the bikes you tried?

Hi Moglie
There is an excellent shop in Sidmouth, near you. I forget the name, but the gentleman there impressed me with his knowledge and resources.

From memory his is the lower (nearer the sea) of two bicycle shops.
I suggest you try there and use the hilly quality of Sidmouth to test his range, none of which unfortunately, are Juicy Bikes, but he seems a good dealer.

Now remembered: Sidmouth Cycles, EX10 8EF.

Don't know really, I just hate that sensation of going up a hill clicking through all the gears and then nearly ending up at a standstill, so you have to get off. With running, I just have to get me up the hill and not a bike and I don't have to stop. Hence me wanting to get an electric bike to help me up the hill.

My husband rides to work every day on his Specialized racing bike and thats a round trip of 24 miles, but he loves his cycling. I'm doing it to reduce my carbon footprint (I work in the renewables sector and we've made a pledge) and also to save money.

I read that report that Velospeed attached for me, thank you.... I'm quite interested to try a cytronex.

Hi Moglie, there may well be a Kalkhoff owner nearby who would be willing to let you take a spin on their bike. I know there are several in the Dorset area. It's worth a try - the motor assistance helps demolish hills and with the electrics off the lack of hub motor and low centre of gravity leaves the bike feeling satisfyingly bike-like.

Glad to hear you liked it. Just to be clear I wasn't recommending cytronex as I've never ridden one just suggesting it as an alternative brand. I'd have tried one if I lived in the uk but they don't sell them here. The panasonic system in the emotion and kalkhoff range is very good and worth a try too.
